All-time Favorite Book/ Special#1/ Before I Fall| PublikPraktikum

“So many things become beautiful when you really look.”

800px_COLOURBOX1215003.jpg      Hi bookies, I have been searching through my blog posts, and realize, that I have never done a review or anything else of my favorite books. So for today, I made a special no.1, Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver.

“Maybe you can afford to wait. Maybe for you there’s a tomorrow.

Maybe for you there’s one thousand tomorrows,

or three thousand, or ten, so much time you can bathe in it,

roll around it, let it slide like coins through you fingers.

So much time you can waste it.
But for some of us there’s only today. And the truth is, you never really know.”

This is my favorite book of all-time. I also had some others on the list, but let’s talk today about this one. Because it is special.

I read this one in November 2017. And since then, I am in love with it.

With this stunning debut novel, New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver emerged as one of today’s foremost authors of young adult fiction. Like Jay Asher’s Thirteen Reasons Why and Gayle Forman’s If I StayBefore I Fall raises thought-provoking questions about love, death, and how one person’s life can affect so many others.

This is so deep, and important meaning that one book can have. When I read this before reading it, I already knew I am going to like it. What is really important is that the book shows realistic scenes of one High School and the life of one teenager. All love problems, friendship crushes, and what is the most important, the high school bullies. The book really shows us how someone’s words and little provocations can ruin someone’s life, and that our little, means a lot to someone.

  • For popular high school senior Samantha Kingston, February 12—”Cupid Day”—should be one big party, a day of valentines and roses and the privileges that come with being at the top of the social pyramid. And it is…until she dies in a terrible accident that night. However, she still wakes up the next morning. In fact, Sam lives the last day of her life seven times, until she realizes that by making even the slightest changes, she may hold more power than she ever imagined.

Hm, how this sounds to you? Creepy? Scary? Interesting? I would say all of these. Waking up on the same day is not the only problem for Samantha, she needs to change things, the whole day….the feelings, e v e r y t h i n g.

“I guess that’s what saying good-bye is always like–like jumping off an edge. The worst part is making the choice to do it. Once you’re in the air, there’s nothing you can do but let go.”

I won’t spoil this for you. I only wanted to share my emotions, and feelings for this book. I was really hurt sometimes, what she needed to go through one day, to lose her nerves, she lost her friends, even boyfriend. And the next day….. there is no next day, all over again. Her friends do not remember what she did, it is just erased.

  • What was really emotional, was her relationship with her younger sister. The first days their relationship is bad, she was annoying for her, she did not even pay attention to her and so on, and so on. But how days go, she realized that she did not show her love to her family, especially sister. So there, the writer perfectly described the connection between a teenager and her family. She was rude to her sister, and she regrets that that is why she needed to fix this.
  • The relationship with besties was so intense too. Going back through one day, made her realized that she was not that bad and arrogant in past, her friends made her like that. And she was so naive to become the same as them. So, we all know that adolescence is hard and that our life then is based on friendships, and it is not weird that she falls down and changed and all of that just to be accepted into the group of popular girls. And that popularity made her a bully. She didn’t realize that unless she was forced to see. That was one of her biggest regrets. Popularity made her forget the best friend from childhood. A nice and polite boy, who was there the whole time for her, and after she became popular, she rejected him. He obviously was in love with her, but she was like all teenage girls, in love with some other guy, who was popular, sporty and not so in love with her.

I really believe this is a perfect story to read for all teenagers,

and adults because so many things are shown,

and in so many, you will find yourself.

And maybe that will affect you,

and maybe you will just for a second stopped

and thought of your words, or doings.

And one thing also, there is a movie for those who are not interesting in reading it maybe you should give a try to a movie.

See you soon, bookies! 🙂

Koliko necije nista, nekome mnogo znaci.

  • Šta ako biste imali samo jedan dan života? Šta biste uradili? Koga biste poljubili?

Kako vama ovo zvuci? Zastrasujuce? Interesantno? Intrigantno?

Ponekad je bilo zaista tesko kada vidite kroz sta sve jedna obicna, i nesrecna devojka mora proci, gubljenje zivaca, svadje s roditeljima, deckom, prijateljima. A onda sledeceg dana…. nema sledeceg dana, sve ispocetka krece.

Thanks for sharing. I haven’t read this one, but I’ve heard good things. I think the premise is really fascinating!! I like that you felt it was realistic to a teen’s perspective too.

  2. I’m a big fan of Lauren Oliver, I like this one and Panic better than her dystopia series Delirium. This is one of the few ones where I didn’t mind how long the chapter were because it made sense for the story.

Love your review! I remember seeing this book everywhere when it came out, but I never really stopped to really read the blurb. I am definitely more interested in reading now that I’ve read your review, because it made me realize that there’s more behind the Groundhog Day feel of it, which is what made me put it off in the first place. Thank you for this review!
