Into the Water- Paula Hawkins/ Recommendation #1 | VulkanIzdavastvo

“Beware a calm surface—you never know what lies beneath.”  “Beware a calm surface—you never know what lies beneath.”

Summary

Just before she the death, Nell called her sister, but she didn’t pick up. Now Nell is dead.  And she was found at the bottom of the river. Very famous river, at least for Nel. So, Jules will come back into the city that she was running away all these years. A place full of unclear and confusing memories. Jules is sure of one thing: Her sister did not kill herself. Someone else did it. Nel was obsessed with all of the girls that had ended their lives into that lake, but she would never do that.
What secrets Nel pulled with her into the water? Why is Jules so scared of the memories and past? The truth is hidden among people of this town, hidden in the dark heart of the river, and it is uncachable like waves.

To be honest reading Into the Water is only because of the Girl on the Train, and Paula Hawkins. I read the Girl on the Train, and for many people, it was confusing, not interesting and nothing special. But, I liked it. I like mysteries a lot, and for me, this was the good one. I do not understand what people expected… And after a while Into the water came out. I read some comments, and impressions and a lot of people weren’t impressed again, but I decided to buy it. And I didn’t regret.

People have a different opinion and that’s okay. But I read a lot of hate comments on this book. without a reason, really. The book has its story, and it is mysterious. The thing that you expect. I liked it more than ‘The girl in the Train’.

One thing, that is the same, and typical for Paula Howkins, is that her chapters are again named by the characters, and the story is told from more perspectives. And that is the thing that I like about her.

A lot of interesting characters, their relationship, that is mysterious too. One interesting thing is that she doesn’t introduce so many characters, she just throws them into the story, but later I realized and it makes sense. The town was rural, mysterious, and everything that she wrote about people who lived there was too. So all of this details, makes you feel that everything is strange and unknown.

“Yes, it is. It’s, like, when someone has an affair, why does the wife always hate the other woman? Why doesn’t she hate her husband? He’s the one who’s betrayed her, he’s the one who swore to love her and keep her and whatever forever and ever. Why isn’t he the one who gets shoved off a fucking cliff?”

“No one liked to think about the fact that the water

in that river was infected with the blood

and bile of persecuted women, unhappy women;

they drank it every day.”

U TIHOJ VODI – POlA HOKINS

Rezenzija

  6. Yeah – there were a lot of characters in this one! I found myself earlier in the book writing down everyone’s name because I was confused. Haha,

It was your standard suspense read, but no 5-star wow factor I agree.
